DANSING: CHOREO IN CHORAL SINGING

Dansing: Choreography in Chorale Singing

The Neo Nocturne, a non-sectarian mixed choir, believe that choral performance in the Philippines has already reached a level of maturity as evident in the generous harvest of accolade and recognition of choral groups in the archipelago and abroad.

THE LECTURE:
The lecture will be delivered by either the conductor/choirmaster/ director of the choir. It will be devoted to the discussion that should last for 1 hour. Visual aids like photos, illustrations and tables will be used for the lecture. Freedom is given to the lecturer on styles and media to be used. An open forum may be requested after the lecture and performance.

THE PERFORMANCE:
The performance of each choir should last for 1 hour , or approximately 12 songs with a maximum of 30 singing members. The songs are pertinent to the topic discussed by the conductor. There will be an encore performance at the end of the event.

The CHORAL@TURO 2012: ”DANSING” Choreograhy in Chorale Singing will feature the one of the country's top choral conductor Anna Tabita Abeleda-Piquero is the conductor of one the country's best university choirs, The University of the East Chorale. The ensemble has joined countless competitions, both locally and abroad. It has brought the Philippines the distinct honor as the only choir to win the Grand Prix two years in a row in the Busan International Choral Festival in South Korea, in 2006 and 2007. Prior to that, the group, fresh from inception, had already captured the heart of Europe when they concertized and won top prizes in various competitions in 2003, most notable in Austria and Italy, where the group competed for the chance to represent the region in the European Grand Prix for Chorale Music. After this very successful concert tour, the group went back to Europe in 2004 to win the First prize in the Pop/Jazz Category in Concorso in Gorizia, Italy.

This project aims to promote choral performance, educate enthusiasts/choristers and share the methodology, discipline and practice of music by the best choirs in the country. It is also an excellent avenue to expose students to music and parish choir groups and its appreciation especially that the guest conductors will give lectures about music and culture.
